Anita Law is a specialist painter and teacher. Her studio is a chapel in the Dorset village of Dewlish, near Dorchester. According to her father, from a very young age Anita always wanted to be an artist. Her professional studies began with a foundation course at Bournemouth College of Art. This was a great course, it provided an opportunity to try everything; painting, drawing, sculpture, etching, silk-screen printing, photography and graphics. It was difficult to choose a specialist subject, but a degree in Fine Art, with oil painting as the main discipline followed at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design, then a teaching course at London University Institute of Education. A six month crash course in business studies and shorthand and typing, then provided the opportunity of part-time office work, a valuable experience for later work, alongside part-time art teaching for the local Education Authority.
At this time began the self-study of watercolour painting which lead to employment with Collins Publishers as a book illustrator. The next step was to set up a private gallery and partner a music shop. This lasted for many years, during which time a portrait service was established. The illustration work continued but gradually specialized with images relating to music. These were very successful and were sold widely at home and abroad. Anita Law continues to explore the medium of watercolour through her paintings (some of which can be viewed on the Prints page), and her teaching. She welcomes groups to her studio for one or two-day workshops, portrait commissions and invitations to demonstrate watercolour painting and lead workshops for art clubs and societies.
